I ain’t no Billy Joel and I ain’t no Elton John
But “You’ve Always Been a Woman To Me” and after all this is “Your Song”
It may not make the radio or Casey’s weekly top 10
Still I’ll sing it anyways ‘cuz you’re my lover and my friend
Oh…Hey girl, this one’s for you — I’ll sing it over and over again
Hey girl, this one’s for you — over and and over again
Well I’m sitting her in California with a “New York State of Mind”
Saying “Goodbye to That Yellow Brick Road” playing it time after time
And although this is “Your Song”, I guess it’s their song too
‘Cuz every time I hear them play, they’re bringing me back to you
Oh…and every time I hear them play, they’re bringing me right back to you
Though you’re three thousand miles away, they’re bringing me right back to you
And Elton John on the radio, he’s bringing me right back to you
And Billy Joel on my stereo, he’s bringing me right back to you
Melodies hold memories of the times we played so free
And for a while that’s all there is to keep my sanity
“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, ‘cuz I’m a “Piano Man” too
Once again I hear them play, they’re bringing me back to you
Oh…and every time I hear them play, they’re bringing me right back to you
Though you’re three thousand miles away, they’re bringing me right back to you
And Elton John on the radio, he’s bringing me right back to you
And Billy Joel on my stereo, he’s bringing me right back to you
Well “I Am the Entertainer” and “Only the Good Die Young”
You’ll always be my “Tiny Dancer”, my “Uptown Girl” in an “Empty Garden”
You say that I’m your “Rocket Man”, well you know “You May Be Right”
“Sometimes I Need a Fantasy”, won’t “You Save My Life Tonight”
Well “Captain Jack” is “Fantastic” but “Levon’s” out of touch
There’s “Honesty” in the “Harmony” when the “Sad Songs Say So Much”
Oh…and every time I hear them play, they’re bringing me right back to you
Though you’re three thousand miles away, they’re bringing me right back to you
And Elton John on the radio, he’s bringing me right back to you
And Billy Joel on my stereo, he’s bringing me right back to you
they’re bringing me right back to you
they’re bringing me right back to you

Notes: This is the last song I wrote before I got married the first time and although it’s about Deb, it’s really about our common enjoyment of Elton John and Billy Joel. Musically, I’m pretty happy with this one. I think it’s a good ‘One-Hit-Wonder’ novelty song that could make the radio if anyone wanted to do it. This song, “Goodbye” and “In Your Eyes” would be the three I would pick to try to sell if I ever got the chance. I also open and close it with the intros to Piano Man, Bennie and the Jets, Movin’ Out, and Your Song (music only ) and they seem to fit quite well. I once played it in front of 800+ people in a talent show on a cruise ship.
